IT Professionals in Bangalore spend at least 2 to 4 hours in
travelling every day; I bet majority of us agree with this. Traveling in
public transport teaches us many lessons. I would like to share one
among them.
We (IT professionals) are very busy guys who work 8+
hours in office and spend couple of hours in travelling. We are
exhausted after office hours and returning back is a big challenge.
How often do we follow rules?
Today (19th June 2013) around 7:45 AM I was waiting for 500c Volvo bus
near Jayadeva Hospital, usually its very crowded in Morning, I saw a
gentleman aged around 65 to 70 yrs next to me waiting for bus.
Same
time I saw 500c coming from Banashankari side and waited it to stop. I
boarded the bus and saw the same Gentlemen boarding our bus. All seats
were filled in Banshankari itself and there was not even one empty seat
available; I went near to last seat thinking I might get a seat near
Silk Board, Gentleman also came and stood near me, He started checking
his wallet to take out money to buy a ticket. He took one day pass from
the conductor and enquired how long it will take to reach Kundanahalli
Gate, Conductor informed him.
Gentleman started speaking to me and
told his name is Sadasivam, he is new to Bangalore and going to attend
his relative’s marriage. He started questioning me
where are you from?
Where do you work? etc…
Smiling at him I replied, still he didn’t stop… continued asking few more…
Do you travel in bus daily?
How much time will it take to reach Kundanahalli gate?
What is the cost difference between Volvo and Normal Bus?
Do we get seat after some time?
I continued answering his questions.
His next question made me think …. Don’t we have Senior citizen/Ladies seat(s) in Volvo?
By now we had reached silk board and couple of people got down and few
more boarded the bus but still we didn’t get seat. Sadasivam looking at
the crowd told me - how many more people do they fill?
I tried my
best to explain him about peak hour traffic, he was frustrated with the
crowd behavior. By now we had reached Eco space again same story
continued…few people got down and few boarded. Finally I managed to get
one seat. Looking at Sadasivam’s frustration, I offered him seat. He was
very happy to sit. I could see relief on his face.
He was very disappointed with the crowd, traffic, pollution and eagerly waiting to reach his destination.
His next sentence puzzled me…… I don’t see Humanity, Attitude, Responsibility and Discipline in present generation.
Is this really true????
